Re: RPM 4.11.1-1 fails on Cygwin 1.7.27-1 and -2

Ken wrote:
Hello,

There appears to be a problem with the 'RPM' utility, as it produces no output, not even for --version or --help. It appears all dependencies are installed. I could not find any reports on this (bug?) in the lists, so here are the details.

- 'rpm --version' reports nothing.

- 'strace -o rpm_strace.out rpm' produces the following Windows pop-up error dialog:

  -----------------
rpm.exe - Entry Point Not Found
  -----
The procedure entry point poptSaveInt could not be located in the
  dynamic link library cygpopt-0.dll.
  -----------------

- The strace output is:

  Process 5816, exception c0000139 at 77431D82

- Rebase had no effect.

- Tested in mintty and X with same result.

- Tested with the 1.7.27-2 configuration as well as the latest snapshot (20140108 16:52:21) with same result:

CYGWIN_NT-6.1-WOW64 Win7main 1.7.28s(0.271/5/3) 20140108 16:52:21 i686 Cygwin

- OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit w/SP1, on Intel core-i7. Tested on two different systems with varied application and antivirus installed.

- cygcheck.out and strace.out attached.

NOTE: The previous version of RPM, v4.1-2, appears to work fine.

Best regards,
Ken

I am replying to my own report to provide closure to the issue I was experiencing.

Thanks to *Christian* and his response to another issue related to popt in http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2014-01/msg00148.html, I found that RPM v4.11.1-1 works with popt 1.16.1 installed (via a new setup.ini and package updates). Originally, I still had libpopt0 1.6.4-4 installed as the RPM dependency from my previous local download where setup.ini did not include the change for the (now) obsolete libpopt.

One can glean a lot reading this list ... my sincere thanks to all you contributors!

Regards,
Ken
