You know, telling us the content of those messages might be useful...

Did you reboot after deleting the other copies of cygwin?  I'm suspecting
shared memory corruption that comes from having multiple incompatible
cygwin installations at once.  Windows .dlls don't necessarily disappear
from memory just because you deleted them; a reboot is sometimes necessary.
