Executable only found if using full .exe name


I've uncompressed mplayer for Windows in C:\opt\mplayer and added this
directory to my user's path using System Properties, Advanced.

Now I can only invoke mplayer using full .exe name mplayer.exe. This
only happens with this executable!

:  [ ~ ] $; which mplayer

:  [ ~ ] $; which mplayer.exe
