Mount Windows registry into filesystem

Is it possible to mount the registry into the filesystem? I'd love it if one could use commands like 'ls', 'diff' and 'find' on the registry, treating keys as directories and values as files. I have a vague recollection of a posting about this a long while back, but I can't for the life of me find it. Ultimately my goal is to get a diff from two different registry roots. The regtool utility doesn't seem so flexible. Any pointers much appreciated.
