PS, here's my ~/.bash_profile...

$ cat .bash_profile
# ~/.bash_profile: executed by bash for login shells.

if [ -f /etc/bash.bashrc ] ; then
  source /etc/bash.bashrc
fi

if [ -f ~/.bashrc ] ; then
  source ~/.bashrc
fi

and my ~/.bashrc

$ cat .bashrc
# BASH initialisation file

# dos ALIAS instructions
alias ls="ls --color"
alias mkdir="mkdir -p"
alias dir="ls -l --color"
alias dir/w="ls --color"
alias cd..="cd .."
alias ..="cd .."
alias title="cmd /c title"
alias xargs="xargs --no-run-if-empty"
alias ssh="ssh -C"
alias scp="scp -C"

Hope this helps,

J.
