OK.  I think you misinterpreted this example.  It wasn't given to indicate 
that SIDs should be removed from the passwd file.  It was written before 
mkpasswd was changed to add these to the file.  I will admit that this
example is not presented in a clear context, given the changes that are 
presented in the next section ("New since Cygwin release 1.1").  You should
assume the examples and information in this subsequent section supercedes 
the example you point to.  The first example you point to is really only 
appropriate now for those on 9x/Me platforms, where there are no SIDs.
