Did you actually try it? If MANPATH has a leading colon, it's *appended*
to the internal search path. If not, it's used exclusivly.
$ export MANPATH="/usr/ssl/man"
$ man man
No manual entry for man
$ export MANPATH=":/usr/ssl/man"
$ man man
[Man page follows]
