aux is reserved by the OS. Since make uses internal rules that access aux as
file, you're stuck.

You obviously did not explicitly set aux as phony target, since this works
for me:
---- makefile begins -----
.PHONY: aux
aux:
echo Hello!
---- makefile ends ----
/home/jse> make aux
echo Hello!
Hello!
