Patrick,
Visible bells in Vim or BASH or any Readine-based program are all
completely irrelevant here.
The beep you're hearing is triggered by the Windows Character Subsystem.
Typing an escape will cancel the select mode, but as long as that mode's in
effect the only thing you can do is right click or type enter (either of
which will commit and copy the screen selection rectangle to the clipboard)
or escape (to cancel the selection).
Disable QuickEdit if you want to be forced through the menu sequence for
editing in a character window. Then the click won't initiate a selection.
