Unix/Cygwin uses an LF character to separate lines, while DOS/Windows uses a
CR LF character sequence.
So what's happening, with files created by notepad etc., is that the last
word on each script line is interpreted as having a CR as the last
character.
If you look around the Cygwin web site, you should be able to find an editor
such as vi that won't have the problem. I think there's also a solution
involving text vs. binary mounts, but I don't know much about how to go
about it.
