That's something for the far future, I guess.
Not really. I just implemented it. It reads from
/usr/share/locale/locale.alias if the locale isn't recognized. The file
/usr/share/locale/locale.alias is provided by the gettext package.
Which means, however, that it does not work for cygwin stand-alone
applications because the stand-alone cygwin1.dll will not find that file.
Just to be noted, don't worry (unlees you feel like it).
