Hi Andy,
as mutt is already available and this ITP is clearly wrong,
your question is purely academic. ;-)

I built with s-lang as I was building slrn that need slang,
and I wrongly thought we were missing mutt for the same reason.

I am not sure about the answer to your question;
on debian they built against ncursesw
while on archlinux they build with s-lang for this
reason:
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10689

My version of s-lang is built with Onigurama so
it should work also with Japanese like languages,
but I am afraid is just mine guess and I could be
completely wrong.
