I never got nail 11.11 to work properly.  The biggest issue is nail sees all
command line options as email addresses:

$ echo test | nail -s "subject" ex@example.com

ross@durga ~
$ smtp-server: 501 <-s>: recipient address must contain a domain
.. . . message not sent.

Is no one else experiencing this?

Yes, now as you are saying this, I see it too. I don't saw it before because I use it just to `nail email@address.tld`, then it asks for the subject, I type in my message, ctrl-d and the mail is sent via my MTA after nail asked for Cc:.
