These packages were built before the XFree86-*-4.3.0-* releases (around July), which means that they still link to the old-style shared library files, which means that they require the XFree86-lib-compat package in order to function at all. You can't even launch emacs in console mode if you have emacs-X11 installed but not XFree86-lib-compat.

It isn't important that the packages be updated to a more recent upstream version, just that they be rebuilt against Cygwin 1.5.3+ and XFree86-prog-4.3.0-10+.

The last message from Joe on cygwin-apps seems to be around 2003-09-16.

The last message from Dario Alcocer on cygwin-apps seems to be around 2003-05-30.

In the interests of having all Cygwin/X packages up-to-date, should we prod the maintainers into rebuilding their packages? I can always try a rebuild of the current source packages as-is and post them if they build properly.

Comments?

Harold
