Having looked at the rpm cvs repository, I can see that popt is treated so much as a subproject of rpm, that I'm surprised they even bother with a separate version number. Also, looking at ftp.rpm.org, it seems that they have stopped providing detached popt tarballs since 1.7. Actually, you might consider popt-1.8 / rpm-4.2 . I have a self-built rpm-4.2 on my machine - I've attached my (crude) patch in case it can be of any use to you. The patch is against 4.1.1, but it applied without rejects to 4.2, so I didn't bother regenerating it. In addition to applying the patch, it was also necessary to delete or rename the internal elfutils directory. Max.
